And So It Began

Friends, colleagues, and connections-of-connections (friends and colleagues I haven't yet met): I'm here to say I'm going through a professional metamorphosis. For many years, I pursued and held positions at the top of technology departments in companies big and small. That work revved me up and filled me with purpose for a long time. Along the way, though, I experienced a shift.

Like many technology-inclined people, I leaned into working with the machines early on because I saw myself as a high-functioning introvert with a knack for troubleshooting and tinkering. As my experience grew, I found that I was more socially apt than I'd imagined, and as I began to manage people and interact more directly with leaders, my interests changed. I still enjoyed tech and stayed on top of it, but my "why" became people - building teams, mentoring, finding common cause with the business, and confronting challenges that had little to do with the machines.

So, now, transition - I've stepped away from permanent technology leadership roles in service of something else. I can have an impact on applying technology to solve problems by approaching that application from the human side. Over my career, I've observed that most technology problems - dysfunction, disappointment, waste, delay - begin and end with humans and their understanding of what tech is, what it can do (and cannot), and the parts they must play in any successful technology endeavor.

I've started 5sides, a boutique consultancy devoted to helping companies and their leaders fully realize the potential of their technology people, platforms, and investments through analysis, advisory, and real-talk coaching of technical and non-technical folks. Please take a look at what I'm doing here and reach out to me directly to talk about where things are headed, and spread the word to anyone you think could benefit from my help.

The box with 5 sides is always open. No ceiling on thought, no limits on possibility.
